We have been experimenting with lots of different sha256 hashing modules for web browsers. We have tested standard javascript libraries, wasm modules, gpu hacks (pretty unsuccessfully) and finally settled on the javascript crypto api (crypto.subtle).

Above you can see our browser connecting to the remote server, taking a block and returning successful hashes. The hash rates get above 20kh/s on a standard intel i5 laptop with Firefox. Chrome we’ve had varying results for but they are between 15kh/s and 30kh/s depending on who you ask.

You can currently see your hash rate in the browser console when visiting this site. Simply press ctrl+shift+k for firefox and ctrl+shift+j with chrome to view the brower console logs.

While these hash rates aren’t going to be competitive with ASIC mining server farms they are more than sufficient for what we want.
